Abstract | In his book chapter "Enemy Images: Race and Gender Stereotypes in the Discussion of Colonial Troops: A Franco-German Comparison, 1914-1923" in the edited volume Home/Front: The Military, War, and Gender in Twentieth-Century Germany, the author Christian Koller discusses the perceptions of African colonial troops in the German press and public. By carefully analyzing the gendered representations used in the discourse on these troops, he illustrates the complex interweaving of sexism and racism that served as a foundation for German nationalism. |
