Abstract

This book gathers studies that deal with different aspects of violence against women during the Civil War and repression under Franco's regime: violence against women activists or those related to the defeated, or simply for having transgressed the traditional woman's model. Institutions such as the so-called 'Patronato de Protección a la Mujer' (Women's Protection Board), prisons, schools or boarding schools that were actually workplaces, are analyzed in the chapters that make up the book that also provide the novelty of many of its documentary sources, such as military archives and civilian government funds, which have been opened to research recently.
