A Promise to Keep

The article presents the author's account from his experience in Kabul, Afghanistan when he returned to cover the war as a reporter. He describes the lives of everyday Afghanis in Kabul and elsewhere, and gives voice to their frustrations and fears as they lived under the rule of the Taliban. THe author explores the tension between traditional gender roles in the country and those that the Taliban sought to uphold.
