Abstract

This monograph shares the story of the wartime experiences of a group of women who ran a field hospital near the trenches during World War I. Open from 1915 to 1919, the Scottish Women's Hospital offered their services to France with a hospital in the ancient Abbey of Royaumont, near Paris. Under conditions of great hardship, these women persisted to serve an integral role in the war efforts, and this text draws on their diaries and letters home.
