Abstract

Considered are the total crimes against the penal code of Japan from 1926 to 1958, with special emphasis on crime rates for murder, robbery, and rape during the period 1933 to 1974. The amount and character of crimes are explained by the socioeconomic, cultural, and spiritual conditions in the different periods. Seven different stages of social conditions are identified and described.
