Abstract | Total War: Civilians Become Targets is part 10 of the series People's Century: 1900-1999. During the First and Second World War the nature of war changed. Both were highly industrialized total wars which pit whole societies against each other. Civilians were needed at the homefront to support the war efforts. At the same time, they found themselves in the line of fire. The documentary Total War focuses on the Second World War and presents eyewitnesses from Britain, Germany, Russia, Korea, Japan, and the United States. The film tells the story of how millions of civilians participated and came to be legitimate targets in the Second World War. |
