Abstract

This study builds on the work of Chantal Savoie (2014) surrounding the first French-Canadian women writers at the turn of the twentieth century to approach the First World War as an event that influenced the process of women's collective access to literature. The case of "Le Royaume des femmes," the women's page of the daily La Patrie, directed by Anne-Marie Huguenin (née Gleason, pen name “Madeleine”), appears to be significant of this reconfiguration of women's discursive practices and of women's relationship with politics. In this article, I show how the feminine page constitutes a crucible of commitment to the feminine in Québec.
