Abstract

The first part of this volume, which discusses the four meetings of the “Women of the Light and the Shadows” of Orléans unveils the inventive richness and energy of the women of the interwar period. By interrogating the streets they took to affirm their place in an unstable society, the figures evoked here revel in dazzling success, but also in the entrenched archaisms of the time. Their immense contribution to the Great War drove them at first on the possible street of freedom, of their liberty. (translated and modified from publisher)
