Abstract

This book chapter in the edited volume on political violence in modern times  explores "gender-historical" aspects of the deployment of German soldiers in the German Wehrmacht's  war against the Sovuet Union between 1941 and 1944. The focus is on "love relations" of German soldiers with Russian women. For  the authors Rolf-Dieter Müller these relations mark  the limits of totalitarian rule. Numerous, partly each other contradicting regulations from various Nazi institutions and the Wehrmacht indicate, so the author, that  the reach of the National Socialist ideology had limit in the private live even during a war.
