Abstract

Based on interviews, this book describes the memories and experiences of the generation of war and refugee children at the end of the Second World War. Sabine Bode focuses primarily on the children who grew up directly in the war, whether shaped by bombing raids or by the impressions of a seemingly eternal displacement and flight. In doing so, she touches on some of the problems that, in her opinion, have led to the fact that war children who have grown old today would suddenly be confronted again as pensioners with their traumatic events, which made themselves heard not only through a poor health situation, but also through depression, memory loss or other post-traumatic stress disorders.
