Abstract

This introdction of a special issue on "The "Remasculinization" of Germany in the 1950s" of the journal SIGNS: Journal of Women in Culture and Society  discusses the state of research on the subject and introduces and connects  the three articles by Robert Moeller "The Last Soldiers of the Great War" and Tales of Family Reunions in the Federal Republic of Germany (pp. 129-145), Heide Fehrenbach "Rehabilitating Fatherland: Race and German Remasculinization" (pp. 107-127) and Uta Poiger "A New, "Western" Hero? Reconstructing German Masculinity in the 1950s" (pp. 147-162) as well as the comment by Susan Jeffords "The "Remasculinization" of Germany in the 1950s: Discussion" (pp. 163-169).
