Abstract

This pathbreaking article explores the social and everyday life history of soldiers of the Kingdom of Piemont during the 18th century. One important theme is the intersection between military and civilian life in the garrison towns. The author shows how blurred the boarders between civilian and military life still were. The barracks were mainly constructed for families, and soldiers and their female partners (married or not) both worked inside and outsisde of the  walls of the barracks for a living.
