Abstract

This German-language volume with the translated title Memory and Gender: Patterns of Interpretation in Representations of National Socialist Genocide, edited by Insa Eschebach, Sigrid Jacobeit and Silke Wenk explores the gendered construction of the collective memory in publications on the Holocaust. The editors rightly emphasize that in debate about collective memory of the National Socialist genocide, gender difference are rarely integrated. But whether monuments, films, autobiographies, or commemorations, the contributions to this volume show, notions of "male" and "female" play a central role in the recollection of National Socialism and the constructions of national identities after 1945.
