"Never again!" the peoples of the world declared in November 1918. But how could they put an end to the scourge of war? Analyzing the citizen and the world order for the first time on the basis of some two-hundredd publications written between 1914 and 1919, this book examines how French, Britons and Americans imagined lasting peace during the depths of the most terrible conflicts in history. The extent of the war, its duration, the mourning of millions and new political discourses favoring democratization and the power of publication simulated reflection. To date, historians of international relations have neglected these figures who, although lacking political power, were convinced that citizens should have a say in world affairs. They initiated a vast movement based on citizen engagement, the repercussions of which continue reverberate today. Beyond the particularities and national interests, this book shows that French, British and Americans shared a number of ideas on how to achieve lasting peace.
