Abstract | The article presents an examination into the domestic social aspects of World War I in Germany, focusing on the challenges of prisoners of war and policing their interactions with native Germans. Accounts are given describing the particular problem of marital infidelity among German women with prisoners of war due to the tension of their husbands' prolonged service on the battlefronts. Analysis is also provided addressing the social and economic changes in gender identity which impacted German women of the period. |
