Abstract

Music and war have historically been closely associated with propaganda and suggestion. However, music can also be a medium for artists to express their attitude towards war. This book examines the phenomenon of "music and war" from different perspectives. It ranges from the Renaissance and the two world wars to Woodstock, contemporary film music and death metal. The contributions offer for the first time an approach to the broad 'battlefield' of music and war and provide revealing insights into the complex of topics that are current at all times.
