Abstract

In The Road to Greenham Common, Jill Liddington draws on handwritten diaries, little-known autobiographies, forgotten minute books, and life-story interviews with peace activists. Her richly researched work disentangles the different and often complex feminist analyses of militarism from the aftermath of the Napoleonic Wars to the end of the Cold War offering a major reappraisal of the women's peace movement from its beginnings to the present day. Liddington—among other things—provides an understanding of the "long road" that led to the anti-nuclear movement of the 1980s.
