Abstract | Thunder Rock is a 1942 British drama film directed by Roy Boulting, based on Robert Ardrey's 1939 play of the same title. As the 1940s approach, British reporter David Charleston (Michael Redgrave) tries to alert the public to the political unrest that he believes is leading to another war with Germany – but no one listens to him. So David gives up, retiring to a small town in the American Midwest, where he works as a lighthouse watchman. There he is visited by the ghosts of 19th-century ship captain Joshua Stuart (Finlay Currie) and his passengers, who try to persuade David to make a difference while he is alive. Their conversations renew David's spirit and campaign against fascism, totalitarianism, and isolationism. |
