El Presidente

This biopic of Emilio Aguinaldo, the first president of the First Republic of the Philippines, reveals the long struggle for independence. Aguinaldo's efforts to coordinate colonial resistance against the Spanish lead his peers to elect him president of the provisional government during the Spanish-American War. Yet their hard-won independence falls once they come under control of the United States. Aguinaldo continues to witness tragedy befall his nation during subsequent wars.
