Paramilitarism in Europe after the Great War: An Introduction

This introductory chapter offers a concise introduction to the subject of the book, the existing literature on its subject matter and the general themes explored by the contributors to the volume. Crucially, it makes a compelling case for studying the ‘postwar’ period after 1917–18 as a transformative era in European history from which many important trajectories lead to Europe's mid-century crisis.
