Abstract

In late World War II, German operations in the Balkans depend on refueling posts in Sarajevo. Walter, leader of the Yugoslav Partisans, can stop them, but his identity remains a secret to all involved. The Germans plant a fake Walter to ensure success, only to be defeated by the people of Sarajevo. Such a message was necessary to promote a harmonious, multi-ethnic national identity in Yugoslavia.
