Abstract | Over 5,500 members of the Women's Army Corps (WAC) staffed the Army's Southwest Pacific Area theater administrative offices during World War II. This is the story of a WAC clerk typist and her friends who were among the first WACs to land in the Dutch East Indies, New Guinea, and the Philippines. In this volume, the author recounts how she and her fellow WACs worked long hours, travelled on ancient troop ships, lived mainly in tents, & suffered through air raids & typhoons. |
