Abstract

Millicent Garrett Fawcett (1847–1929) was an influential writer on political and social matters, especially on topics such as female suffrage and women's education. This work, published in 1920, looks back at the long campaign for women's suffrage, and concludes with an examination of what had actually been achieved in 1918. The author supported the British war effort in World War I, believing that if women supported the war effort, suffrage would naturally be granted at the end of the war. This separated her from the many feminists who were also pacifists.
