Abstract

This diary, written by Ishobel Ross (1890-1965), recounts Ross' journey from Edinburgh, to London, to Thessaloniki, and eventually to Ostrovo, and her training as a cook before joining the Scottish Women's Hospitals Unit. Ross was fascinated by the nationalities of the different soldiers she met in Greece, and, while learning Russian and Serbian to communicate with them, developed sympathy with the Serbians. In this diary, published years after its writing by Ross' daughter, Ross chronicles her wartime experiences in detail.
