Abstract | Fridericus is a 1937 German historical film directed by Johannes Meyer, which depicts the life and triumps of Frederick II of Prussia (1712–1786). Known as Frederick the Great, under his rule, Prussia greatly increased its territories and became a leading military power in Europe. The film focuses in particular on the Seven Years' War (1756–1763), in which Prussia emerged victorious. The film was part of the Prussian film genre, a cycle of historical films made in Germany noted for their general glorification of Prussian history and its military. |
