Abstract | Ohm Krüger is a 1941 German biographical film directed by Hans Steinhoff, part of a series of propaganda films produced in Nazi Germany attacking the British. Supported by the Reich Minister of Propagana at the time, Joseph Goebbels (1897–1945), Ohm Krüger depicts the life of the South African politician Paul Kruger (1825–1904) and his eventual defeat by the British during the Boer War (1899–1902). The film demonizes Britain by focusing on it's blind pursuit of gold, barbaric colonial practices, and violent war strategies, including the burning of whole villages, mass executions, and concentration camps. Re-released in 1944, this was the first of only five films to receive the predicate "Film of the Nation" (Film der Nation) during the Nazi era. |
