Abstract

This memoir recounts theĀ author's experiences as a Lieutenant in the Free French Forces of Charles de Gaulle, attached to the US First Army Corps in France, during World War II. Along with other Frenchwomen, the author helped establish refugee camps in France, Belgium, and Germany after liberation by the Allies. She was one of the first female officers at the liberation of Buchenwald. The author received the Bronze Star from the US and the Croix de Guerre from France for her service.
