Abstract

This autobiography by Hanna Jazłowiecka (born 1923 in Warsaw) tells the story of her struggle during the German occupation of Poland in September 1939 as part of the Polish resistance. She became a member of the Armed Resistance (Związek Walki Zbrojnej) established after the German invasion. The text also decribes her persecution by the German occupation forces and her imprisonment in the concentration camp Oberlangen (Emslandlager VI), a penal camp for POWs in the remote wasteland area near the border to the Netherlands. The prisoners, who had to cultivate the moors under most primitive circumstances and suffered under the most inhuman living and working conditions in the camps, which hosted mainly  Polish and Soviet POWs, men and women. After the liberation of the camp, the author migrated to Canada, where she started a new life.
