Abstract

This documentary, censored for over ten years, explores the Paris Massacre of 1961 during the Algerian War for Independence (1954-1962) through interviews, newsreel, and re-enactments. After implementing a curfew for all Algerians in the city, the National Liberation Front (FLN) organized a non-violent protest. In response, the police launched a full-scale attack on over 30,000 demonstrators, including mass arrests and firing on the crowd. White Parisians responded in-kind as well, leading to mass evictions and murder. The documentary was not widely released until October 2011.
