Abstract | A biographical drama of Florence Nightingale (1820-1910), who was an English social reformer, statistician and the founder of modern nursing. Born to an aristocratic British family, Nightingale volunteered to care for the wounded of the Crimean War (1853-1856) in Constantinople. She gave nursing a favourable reputation and became an icon of Victorian culture, especially in the persona of "The Lady with the Lamp" making rounds of wounded soldiers at night. She used her experiences there to help reform hospital sanitation practices and lay the basis for modern nursing. |
