| Abstract | Based on interviews, this documentary explores the role of National Council of the Resistance (NCR) in creating the French welfare state during and after World War II. Entitled “Happy Days,” the NCR envisioned a vast program of pensions, social security, and union rights to unite the occupied nation around a similar vision of democratic socialism during war. The documentary also explores the politics behind the program’s dismantling as well as France’s role in the European Union. |
