Abstract | In 1950s France, Jacques, a schoolteacher, heads to the small town where he lived during the Occupation, to do a clown routine for the villagers, a yearly ritual. But Lucien, his 15 year old son, finds it utterly embarrassing. Jacques' best friend André explains the history of this ritual to Lucien. It has to do with Jacques' and André's engagement in Resistance activities, and a moment of light in their darkest hour, thanks to the humanity of a German soldier. |
