Abstract

Created by the University of Victoria (BC), Canada's Siberian Expedition aims to raise public awareness of the Canadian Expeditionary Force to Siberia which, at the close of World War I, sent more than 4,000 soldiers from Canada's West Coast to Vladivostok, on Russia's Pacific coast, in a failed bid to aid an Allied strategy to defeat the revolutionary state established in 1917 by the Bolsheviks. Presented in English, French, and Russian, the site consists of a searchable database of photographs and documents related to the Expedition, as well as texts explaining experiences of soldiers and the reasons for Canada's actions, as well as their results, context that makes the site a resource for teachers and students.
