Working for Victory? Images of Women in the First World War, 1914-18

The authors have selected more than 150 contemporary photos, some of which have never been published before and which reveal the extent to which women took over the day-to-day running of society, the strong class divisions of the time and how little work had progressed from the Victorian period and how physically demanding it was.
