Abstract

In 1918, Ernest Hemingway fell in love with an American nurse, Agnes von Kurowsky, as he recuperated in a Milan hospital. This collaborative volume contains von Kurowsky's diary of von Kurowsky, her effusively affectionate and concerned 52 letters to him, 14 of his idealistic letters to his family, which disclose a good deal about his forceful, exuberant personality, and hospital reminiscences by Henry Villard, one of his fellow patients.
