The volume provides an up-to-date overview of the historical research on the perpetrators of the Shoah and contributes to the objectification of the debate on a topic that has been neglected for decades. Wehrmacht crimes have raised questions about the perpetrators of the Shoah for the first time. Were they radicalized desperados, "normal men" or fanatical National Socialists? In the past five decades, academic research has dealt with such questions on the margins and speculatively, but broad research into perpetrators has got underway in the past five years. The first confirmed findings show that the group of perpetrators far exceeded the core groups of National Socialism and also included foreign collaborators.
