Master Race: The Lebensborn Experiment in Nazi Germany

Lebensborn e.V. was an organization, founded in 1935 by the  SS, the Nazi Schutzstaffel (Protection Squadron), in Nazi Germany. It pursued the goal of creating a "racially pure" and "healthy" Aryan elite. Lebensborn provided welfare to its mostly unmarried mothers, encouraged anonymous births by single women at their maternity homes, and mediated adoption of these children by likewise "racially pure" and "healthy" parents, particularly SS members and their families. During World War II, Lebensborn became part of the "Germanization" project of the Nazis in the occupied territories. This study focuses on the many Polish children who were stolen from their families by the Nazis as part of the program. These children were brought into Lebensborn homes first and then were adopted by Nazi parents. This book investigates the history of Lebensborn and presents interviews with some of the Polish children whose lives were ruined by the war.
