Abstract	A love triangle unfolds on the Greek island of Cephalonia during World War II. Villagers quickly surrender to German and Italian forces. Captain Corelli, an Italian officer who plays the mandolin, falls in love with a local woman who is engaged to a fisherman. After Italy surrenders, German soldiers execute their former allies en masse. The fisherman rescues Corelli from slaughter to win back his fiancé.
