Abstract | This documentary examines rape, sexual violence, and sexual slavery in the Sierra Leone Civil War (1991-2002) and argues that such atrocities be deemed international war crimes. Survivors recount their experiences of being kidnapped, gang raped, and trained as rebel wives and fighters, often when they were sill children. Although all armies and militias perpetrated these crimes, an interview of with a Revolutionary United Front spokesman reveals that soldiers see rape as an act of war that serves to terrorize the enemy rather than a war crime. |
