The English Patient

Based on the novel by Michael Ondaatje, this internationally acclaimed film explores love, loss, and memory during World War II. French-Canadian nurse Hana cares for a badly burned man, known as the English patient, in an abandoned Italian villa toward the end of the war. His memories of his previous life slowly come back, coinciding with the arrival of a former intelligence officer, also a Canadian. The English patient's account of his love affair with a British woman mirrors the one between Hana and an Indian Sikh soldier and reveals why the intelligence officer is on a quest for revenge.
