Abstract

This volume is the memoir of Olga Lengyel (1908-2001), a Hungarian Jewish woman, about her time as a prisoner in the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp. Lengyel was a trained surgical assistant in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, working in the hospital where her husband, Dr Miklós Lengyel, was director. In 1944, she was deported with her husband, parents and two children to Auschwitz; she was the only member of her family to survive. In this memoir, she recounts her traumatic experience in the camp.
