Abstract

Krystyna Żywulska (1914-1993) was born Sonia Landau in Łódź. During the German occupation of Warsaw, she joined the Polish resistance, was arrested, sentenced to death and deported to Auschwitz and Birkenau extermination camps. Originally published in Poland immediately after the war, this memoir represents one of the earliest and most significant contributions to Polish literature on the Holocaust. This remarkable work offers valuable insight into the daily experiences and cultural activities of prisoners in the Nazi camps.
