Abstract

In this chapter, the author takes a look at the differences between urban and rural areas in the Czech Republic in World War I and France in World War II. She focuses specifically on food access; she describes how the Prague population tried to get hold of groceries in the countryside during times of supply shortages and what resentment this aroused between townspeople and villagers. In addition, the national differences between the poorer German-Bohemian and the much richer Czech agricultural areas led to complaints about poor food deliveries.
