Citizenship and Social Class, and Other Essays

This book consists of one long essay, based on two lectures given in Cambridge in 1949, and three shorter studies, first published in 1934, 1938 and 1939. The author of this volume begins with an analysis of the concept of citizenship into three parts, or elements - civil, political and social. After considering the prospects for social equality in post-war Britain, this monograph analyzes what has been achieved and discusses citizenship and social equality in the wider perspective of Western and Eastern Europe.
