He served as a colonel of cavalry in the Bavarian army since 1630, obtained the command of a regiment in 1632, 1633 and 1634, during which he laid the foundations of his reputation as a swift and fearsome leader of cavalry forays. This text is a biographical account based on his autobiographical writings and archival material.
