This volume is the memoir of Hannah Snell (1723-1792), who disguised herself as a man and joined the army in search of her husband, who had deserted her while she was pregnant. After discovering that her husband had been executed for murder, she continued to serve in the Marines for five years without ever being discovered by her regiment.
