Abstract

The figure of the female anti-aircraft gunner is often used by the public interested in history to put the specifics of the end of the war in 1944/45 into a handy image: Women forced into last, senseless missions stand for the totalization of the war through their civil-military hermaphrodite status and represent defeat. The memoirs of the women helpers show the end of the war as an extra-historical condition and varying intellectual draft of a posthistoire. By satirizing and obstinately exposing this end-time experience, the women helpers' memories of missions and odysseys back home simultaneously open up a path from the end of the war back into history.
