Abstract

In this Romeo-and-Juliet story for the Cold War age, a president of a fictional European country tries to maintain neutrality in an important United Nations vote by encouraging forbidden love. In Concordia, the daughter of the American ambassador and the son of the Soviet ambassador immediately fall in love to the dismay of their parents. The president uses their love as well as fake military exercises to win international independence for Concordia.
