Abstract

This article is concerned with what the author characterizes as an "excessive preoccupation with -- and anxiety about -- masculinity in early Cold War American politics." Cuordileone examines the space between cultural and political life to examine how a "cult of masculine toughness and virility" became part of American political discourse.
