This work is about returnees from the Second World War. The first part gives an overview of the official perception of the returnees and the interpretation of their return. To what extent this euphemistic argumentation in the family reality reached its limits, is presented in the main part of the work. Three areas of conflict are highlighted: the meaning of homecoming for (married) husband and wife, the effects of returning home to the couple's children, and the problems that arise for the returnee and his family in a (war-related) mental illness of the returnee.
